Commercial Vehicle Registration

You can register or renew registration for a commercial vehicle at any Access PEI location. All commercial vehicles require the following information:

  • Front axle rating
  • Number of axles
  • Number of tires and size of the tires
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
  • Weight based on vehicle usage
  • Trailer - spread (distance) from centre to centre of axle hub (if applicable)

Detailed information and the form for certifying the correct axle rating are available in Vehicle Weights and Dimensions Regulations (Part 1 and Schedule 5).

What documents do I need to register a commercial vehicle?

New Registration:

If you are registering a vehicle you just purchased, new or used, you will need to provide:

  • Registration, completed and signed or bill of sale if selling price is not included on registration
  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of inspection

To ensure you have all required documents for a vehicle purchased in United States, please visit Canada Border Services Agency or Registrar of Imported Vehicles. 

Renew Registration:

If you are renewing the registration for your commercial vehicle, please provide:

  • Proof of insurance
  • Current registration.

Please note: If your vehicle has been modified or upgraded to a higher weight rating you must show it was inspected after modifications. Highway Safety Division must approve vehicle modifications.
