Apply for the Special Projects Program - Employers

All non-profit organizations in PEI and municipal and provincial government departments and agencies in PEI can apply for Special Projects wage funding to create employment opportunities for unemployed Islanders who have difficulty securing employment.

Is my organization eligible for funding?

This program supports non-profit organizations and municipal and provincial government departments to hire unemployed Islanders who are at least 30 years of age who have or are about to exhaust their Employment Insurance benefits. Organizations can hire Islanders who are registered with the Provincial Job Registry.

What funding can my organization receive?

Once your funding application is approved, this program offers 100 per cent minimum wage support for employers to create temporary employment for Islanders in need.  Employers can “top-up” wages using their own resources.

What do I need to complete this application online?

You will need to provide detailed information about your organization including:

  • Revenue Canada Account number
  • Workers Compensation Board account number
  • Business Name Registry number

You will also need to provide a clear description of the employment opportunity including required skill, wage rate and employment start and end dates.

How long can I hire for through this program?

Positions can have varying starting dates and normally cannot be longer than 13 consecutive weeks. Projects can begin at any time but must conclude by March 31 of the fiscal year.

What else do I need to know about the application process?

The online form will take between 30-45 minutes to complete, depending on how much information you enter. You should have all supporting documents ready to upload.

You must complete the application process in one sitting. You cannot save the form but you can request a copy of the information you submit. If you require a paper-copy of the application, please contact the Employment Development Agency.
