Displaced left turn lane opening to the public later this month

The displaced left hand turn at the intersection of the Charlottetown Perimeter Highway and St Peters Road will open to the public in mid-November.

The intersection is the first of its kind in Canada. It has proven to be effective in North America as a way to help alleviate traffic congestion. The province hopes it will do the same at this busy intersection. The project was part of the East Royalty Transportation Plan.

“The area of East Royalty continues to grow and we recognize the need for traffic solutions to ensure safe passage for all. I’m proud of my department for continuing to find innovative solutions to our existing challenges.” - Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Steven Myers.

The province has produced instructional videos that cover each of the possible turning scenarios to help Islanders navigate the new intersection safely.
