Partners in Care reduced, new admissions stopped on Western Hospital inpatient unit due to COVID-19 outbreak (May 10, 2022)
A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on the Western Hospital inpatient unit. As a result, no visitors will be permitted on the inpatient unit until the outbreak is declared over. During this time, each patient may have one designated Partner in Care, reduced from three.
The unit will be closed to new admissions, except in rare cases where an admission is required and it is safe to do so, such as COVID positive patients or recently recovered COVID patients.
Patients who would normally be admitted to Western Hospital inpatient unit will be cared for in available beds elsewhere within Health PEI.
The Emergency Department and Collaborative Emergency Centre will remain open at this time.
The public is reminded that Health PEI continues to require people to wear a mask at all of its hospitals, health centres, service areas and offices for the safety of patients and staff.
