Visitor restrictions remain at Western Hospital

Western Hospital will maintain visitor precautions due to the presence of gastro-intestinal illness.

Tests have confirmed that the illness is norovirus.  Western Hospital is taking action to prevent spreading within the facility including enhanced cleaning and isolation measures for patients who are ill.

To further reduce the risk of spread Health PEI asks the public’s cooperation with restricted visitation which will be limited to two visitors per patient at a time for a maximum of one hour.

Visitors are asked to stay home if they are feeling unwell to prevent the spread of illness to residents, staff and the public

It is extremely important that everyone coming to the hospital clean their hands before and after entering a patient’s room, or any department of the hospital, and upon entering and leaving the facility.  Alcohol-based hand rub stations are available throughout health care facilities for this purpose.

The situation is being regularly monitored and assessed.  A further update will be provided later in the week.
