Keith Dewar is Interim Chief Executive Officer of Health PEI. Prior to this appointment, Keith served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region in Saskatchewan since November of 2012. He previously served in a number of executive roles in the Prince Edward Island health care system.
Mr. Dewar was appointed in January 2010 as the first CEO of Health PEI, serving in this capacity until 2012. His career has included significant senior experience in health, education, and the private sector. Prior to his appointment as CEO of Health PEI he served as Prince Edward Island’s Deputy Minister of Health for two years, and before that he oversaw the delivery of all health services for one of Canada’s largest and most integrated health authorities as Senior Vice President of Health Services for the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region. He was also appointed the first CEO of the Provincial Health Services Authority in Charlottetown and served on the senior team at Holland College, working in finance, knowledge development, and international business development.
Mr. Dewar first entered the health field in 1991 when he joined the senior management teams of initially Prince County Hospital and then East Prince Health, both headquartered in Summerside. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, he held various positions with one of Canada’s largest accounting firms, KPMG, in Halifax, NS and St. John’s, NL.
He is a graduate of Dalhousie University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Business Administration. He also holds the professional designation of Chartered Professional Accountant.
Mr. Dewar and his wife Audrey have four adult children, two of whom live on Prince Edward Island. He enjoys gardening and kayaking with his wife, visiting their children, and travelling.
