Fire Weather Index (FWI)

The Forest, Fish and Wildlife Division offices remain closed. Paper burn permits will not be issued at this time; apply online for a Domestic Burn Permit.

Burning Permits 

Apply online for a Domestic Burn Permit. As a permit holder, you are required to check and adhere to the daily Fire Weather Index for your fire region. For an Industrial Burning Permit, contact your local forest district office.

Fire Weather Index

The Fire Weather Index (FWI) is updated daily during fire season on PEI from March 15  to November 30 inclusive. From December 1 to March 14, the site is not updated.

Wind Speeds 

In addition to the Fire Weather Index, wind speeds must be checked to determine whether burning is permitted (for domestic burning, the wind speed must be less than 10km/hr). Please click on links below to view the current wind speed in your area:

Legend: 

LOW: (blue) Domestic and Industrial Burning Permits can be used if wind speeds are under 10 km/hr.
MODERATE: (green) Only Industrial Burning Permits can be used if wind speeds allow.
HIGH: (yellow) All Burning Permits are suspended until conditions allow.
VERY HIGH: (brown)  All Burning Permits are suspended until conditions allow. 
EXTREME: (red) All Burning Permits are suspended until conditions allow.
