Abattoir Strategic Enhancement Project (ASEP)
The PEI Department of Agriculture and Land (DAL) has established the Abattoir Strategic Enhancement Project (ASEP) to enhance the processing capacity of PEI’s abattoirs by supporting initiatives to increase capital investment. This will contribute to improved operations and increased competitiveness, productivity, and profitability for PEI abattoirs.
Who is eligible for funding?
- Mi’kmaq First Nations and other Indigenous Organizations that own and operate provincially inspected abattoirs; and
- Provincially inspected PEI abattoirs and/or operations that hold a Canadian Food Inspection Agency permit to Treat Specified Risk Material (SRM) under the Health of Animals Act and regulations.
What types of expenses are eligible for funding?
Costs associated with the following:
- Capital equipment to improve operations of PEI abattoirs (e.g. to improve systems, equipment and facilities, to improve the efficiency of waste management, etc.)
- Capital equipment to increase competitiveness, productivity, and profitability;
- Modification or adaptation of existing equipment to improve efficiency;
- Initiatives to support competitiveness, productivity, and profitability; and
- Other expenses as deemed eligible by the project review committee.
