Potato Industry Adaptation Strategy
The Government of Prince Edward Island is pleased to work with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, external consultants and members of the PEI Potato industry to help identify and analyze the impact of potato wart on the PEI economy and develop potential adaptation strategies that could benefit the industry now and in the future.
Who is involved?
The Potato Industry Adaptation Strategies Team, who will be conducting the analysis and strategy development, is funded by the Government of Prince Edward Island, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The stakeholders of the project are diverse and will include both provincial and federal governments, potato industry members, including the PEI Potato Board, growers and a wide cross section of the potato value chain, and the general public.
How long will the project take?
The project is divided into three main phases:
- Building understanding and generating ideas;
- Evaluating ideas and completing industry analysis; and
- Presenting recommendations in a final report.
A targeted date range has been established in order to have a final report and recommendations completed for presentation in early 2023.
How do I participate?
The Project Team is currently meeting and holding discussions with a wide variety of stakeholders and will be collecting the views of many others through a variety of means as the project progresses. A call for public input on the project will be formally distributed in the coming months.
