Pesticide Applicator Certificate
An individual or company that wants to apply a commercial class pesticide must obtain a pesticide applicator certificate. All pesticide applicator certificates are issued by the Department of Communities, Land and Environment. Pesticide applicator certificates are available for the following classes:
Agricultural Class A
Mosquito and Biting Fly Control Class B
Structural Class C-1
Structural Fumigation Class C-2
Seed / Seed Piece Treatment Class D
Landscape Class E
Forestry Herbicides Class F-1
Reforestation Class F-2
Greenhouse Class G
Soil Fumigation Class H
Other Class I
What are the requirements?
To get a pesticide applicator certificate, you must:
- be 18 years of age; and
- successfully complete a written exam (mark of 75 per cent or higher).
What are the fees?
$75. There is no HST. Cheques should be payable to the Minister of Finance. Certificates are valid for a maximum period of five years.
How do I renew my certificate?
An agricultural class pesticide applicator certificate (Class A) can be renewed by completing a written exam or by participating in the Pesticide Applicator Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Program offered by the PEI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. All other classes of pesticide applicator certificates (Class B - H) can only be renewed by re-writing and successfully completing the exam.
Are training courses available?
Yes, but only if you want an agricultural class pesticide applicator certificate (Class A). The PEI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries offers training sessions for individuals seeking certification to use agricultural pesticides.
