Early Learning and Child Care Investments
The Government of Canada will provide Prince Edward Island with nearly $121.3 million over the next five years (2021-2026) to expand and improve upon the high quality, flexible, publicly-managed early learning and child care system. This includes a one-time investment of about $3.6 million in 2021-2022 to support the early childhood workforce.
In addition to the federal contribution, Prince Edward Island currently invests $31,385,010 in early learning and child care annually, including $2,935,000 for pre-kindergarten and over $28,450,010 for the early learning and child care sector.
Prince Edward Island’s Early Learning and Child Care Action Plan focuses on priority areas of improving availability and access, increasing quality and supporting inclusion.
Improving Affordability: $11.5 million
Increasing Access: $2.5 million
Increasing Quality: $17.6 million
Supporting Inclusion: $960,000
