Inclusive Equipment and Materials Grant

Funding is available to support operators of designated Early Years Centres and probationary Early Years Centres to purchase the necessary equipment and materials to support inclusive programming. Funding through this grant supports high quality early learning and child care efforts to increase participation opportunities for all children, including children with disabilities, children needing enhanced or individual supports, Indigenous children, Black and racialized children, children of newcomers, and official language minorities. 

Who is Eligible to Participate? 

Operators of designated Early Years Centres or probationary Early Years Centres are eligible to apply for the Inclusive Equipment and Materials Grant. Operators must: 

  • Be in good standing with the Canada Revenue Agency, or actively working towards good standing. 
  • Be in good standing with provincial and federal legislation. 
  • Not have a written Order issued by the Early Learning and Child Care Board, as per section 48 of the Early Learning and Child Care Act. 

How do I apply? 

  • Review the eligibility criteria in the application and on this page. In your application, describe how the grant will support purchase of equipment and materials to support inclusive programming and positive outcomes for children, and collect the required documents to include with your application. 
  • Email or mail your application or drop off your application form to the Department of Education and Early Years with the required documents.

When is my application due? 

Applications must be submitted no later than March 7, 2025.  

How long will it take to process my application? 

Applicants will be notified of the decision of their application by no later than March 21, 2025.   

How does the program work?

  • This grant is for operators of designated Early Years Centres or probationary Early Years Centres.  
  • The eligible amount per centre is calculated based on FTE enrolments at the time of application, with a base amount provided of $17,500 for centres with up to twenty (20) enrolled FTE children and an additional $250 provided for each FTE child enrolled over and above the base enrolment, up to a maximum grant value of $35,000.
  • Below is a chart for illustrative purposes only, as grant amounts will vary from what is shown between these enrollment points.

  • Applicants must follow the Inclusive Equipment and Materials Grant Guidelines and provide a clear description of how the proposed equipment and materials will have a positive impact on their ability to support inclusion in their centre and support outcomes of children in at least one of the following categories:
    • Physical safety
    • Mobility and accessibility
    • Sensory and self-regulation
    • Accessible or assistive technology
    • Cultural and linguistic diversity, and diverse abilities
  • Recommendations from a specialist/professional may be required for certain specialized equipment (AAC devices or apps, physiotherapy/OT equipment, etc)
  • Each application will be evaluated using a rating system. Scoring will involve a weighted score that will consider how clearly the proposed equipment and materials will support inclusion and outcomes for children in relation to five categories. Projects must receive a score of at least 75% to be eligible for the grant.
  • A grant financial report with paid invoices for final payment must be submitted by June 2, 2025.
