Medical Residency Provincial Loan Repayment Relief
If you are an Island student completing your medical residency and you have a PEI provincial student loan, you may be able to set your loan balance to “non-repayment” status until you complete your residency program. The federal portion of your student loan is not eligible for this repayment relief.
How do I apply for loan repayment relief?
Submit verification of your residency program, e.g. contract or confirmation letter from your program administrator, written proof of your student loan balance, and a completed Medical Residency Payment Relief application.
Please specify the start and end dates for the entire program.
What is the application deadline?
You are eligible to apply at anytime during your residency. However, if you apply at the beginning of your residency, you will maximize the program benefits. Payment relief is not retroactive. Your provincial student loan status will be updated as of the date your completed application is received.
Additional information
Please note that the Medical Residency Payment Relief program applies only to your Provincial Loan balance. Please contact the National Student Loans Service Centre at 1-888-815-4514 to inquire about programs applicable to your Federal Student Loan.
