The Marine Atlantic Bursary
The purpose of this bursary is to provide on-going recognition for the service provided by Marine Atlantic employees (Borden – Cape Tormentine Service). The Marine Atlantic Bursary is specially for former Marine Atlantic families. This $3,000 bursary is awarded annually to a PEI student who is entering post-secondary studies for the first time.
Who is eligible?
Students are eligible if they are entering post-secondary education for the first time, if they are a former Marine Atlantic employee, or if they are a dependent (natural, step, and/or adopted) who is living in the same household as a former Marine Atlantic employee.
Applicants must be pursing post-secondary studies at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Holland College, or Collège de L’Île.
What other criteria must be met?
Marine Atlantic Employment Criteria
Former Marine Atlantic employees must have had 5 years of regular service (three months of service annually) and were employed with the Borden-Cape Tormentine Service.
Former Marine Atlantic employees must have been a PEI resident during their period of employment with Marine Atlantic.
How is the bursary awarded?
Marine Atlantic Bursary applications are reviewed by the Marine Atlantic Bursary Program Board each year. The successful applicant is chosen based on financial need, academic achievement, and extra-curricular activities.
How do I apply?
Applicants are required to provide the following 5 documents to apply for the Marine Atlantic Bursary:
- Marine Atlantic Bursary Application Form (completed);
- Cover letter (discuss your financial need, academics, extra-curricular activities, and your chosen program of study);
- Post-secondary institution acceptance letter;
- High school transcript (grade 11 and first semester of grade 12 marks); and
- A reference letter from a teacher, an employer, a coach, or a volunteer organization.
When is the application deadline
Completed applications must be post-marked, dropped off, or emailed to Student Financial Assistance Services by 5:00 pm on April 16.
