What does Net Zero Energy mean?

Net zero energy consumption means that we reduce our fossil-fuel use as much as possible through electrification while we also grow our renewables (and count on NB to clean their energy at the same time).  For what is left, we use carbon offsets - whether natural sinks, sequestration, or credits.

In order to achieve our goal of Net Zero energy by 2030, we need to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere and offset the GHG emissions produced. We need to consider things like conservation, efficiency, our land use, carbon removal and transitioning to renewable energy sources.

Working our way towards Net Zero is how we will ensure a sustainable future for Prince Edward Island. Let’s find a path forward… together.
