Hunting Guide and Outfitter Information

Non-resident hunters must either hunt with a licensed PEI hunter or use a registered Hunting Guide or Outfitter while hunting on PEI. Regulations require all hunting guides and outfitters to be licensed by the province.

How can I become a hunting guide or outfitter on PEI?

To become a Registered Hunting Guide Licence, you must:

  • be 19 years of age or older;
  • have a valid PEI hunting licence;
  • have a valid Firearms Safety certificate;
  • have a valid emergency first aid and CPR certificate;
  • pass a competency test which will confirm your knowledge of applicable legislation, hunting practices, firearm and hunter safety, and other related topics; and
  • not be prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.

Are there licensing fees for hunting guides and outfitters?

  • A Registered Hunting Guide Licence is $30 for PEI residents and $50 for non-residents.
  • A Registered Hunting Outfitter Licence allows an individual or company to provide services, equipment, guides or guiding services in relation to hunting. The fee is $50 for both residents and non-residents.

Are there other requirements?

  • A resident of PEI who has a valid hunting licence can accompany up to two non-resident hunters, but they may not accept payment or other compensation for these services.
  • A Registered Guide may accompany up to four non-resident hunters.
  • Registered guides may not actively hunt while guiding but may kill an injured bird for a client if necessary.
