Public Land Forest: ACFOR Co-management Agreement

The Province operates a number of co-management agreements with community and environmental groups and forest management companies.

One of these agreements is with ACFOR, a small ecological forestry company that focuses on sustainable forest management planning and selective harvesting.

Under their co-management agreement, ACFOR will operate on selected public land properties in western PEI. They will develop and implement forest management plans for each property and make those plans available to the public.  High value wood products generated through these operations will be marketed by ACFOR. Low value wood will be chipped to replace carbon-based fuels in public buildings such as the Prince County Hospital.
