Wastewater Operators Revised Wastewater Sampling Plan: COVID-19

Government’s priority is protecting the health and safety of Islanders and limiting the spread of COVID-19 by social distancing. A modified sampling schedule is in place for all wastewater owners / operators using PEI Analytical Laboratories. This will limit contact between individuals, both in the field and the laboratory.

Why is there a 30-minute drop-off time for samples?

The laboratory has reserved 30-minute time slots for individual operators to drop off their samples, as normal. Please show up toward the beginning of your time slot.  In between time slots, lab staff will be wiping down surfaces with disinfectant.

Please do not enter the lab if you feel unwell.

What should I do if I arrive and it appears other people are dropping off samples?

Please contact reception at 902-620-3300.

What sample analysis are we focusing on?

At this time, the lab will focus its efforts on faecal coliform, cBOD5, and TSS wastewater analysis for this round of sampling. The lab is currently not processing any wastewater chemistry parameters such as ammonia, pH, phosphorus, or nitrogen due to Covid-19 restrictions.

This schedule has been designed to meet provincial regulatory requirements for these parameters. If there are facilities that need additional testing for federal requirements please contact us below to arrange a drop off time. The Department expects all systems will continue to operate in good condition.  If there are any significant operational challenges that could have an impact on effluent, please follow normal reporting procedures.
