Water Well Permits
Do I need a permit to drill a well?
Depending upon the capacity and the location of the well, a permit to drill a well may be required.
A Well Permit is required if the well is to be:
- located in one of the water well restricted areas; or
- constructed in a manner which departs from the requirements of the Water Well Regulations.
A Groundwater Exploration Permit is required if the well is:
- intended or required to be pumped at a rate of 4 litres per second (50 gallons per minute) or greater; or
- to be used to provide water to a central water supply system.
