Building Standards Council Appeal Board
To provide an independent review process for those dissatisfied with a decision of the Chief Building Official.
What is the function of the Appeal Board?
The Building Standards Council Appeal Board shall consider all appeals of decisions made by the Chief Building Official, and provide by order a ruling whether to confirm, revoke or vary the decision.

How many people are on the Appeal Board?
The Appeal Board shall contain four (4) members, including three (3) from the Building Standards Council.
What are the requirements of members?
The Appeal Board shall be comprised of three (3) members from the Building Standards Council, being:
- the representative of the Association of Professional Engineers of the Province of Prince Edward Island;
- the representative of the Construction Association of Prince Edward Island; and
- the representative of the Architects Association of Prince Edward Island;
and one additional member appointed by the Minister.
Skills Required
The additional member should have a background in engineering, architecture, construction or law, and have the ability to read and interpret technical documents. Past experience serving on a board, council, or organization would be considered an asset.
Mediation and tribunal skills.
What are the nomination requirements?
Statutory Nomination Requirements
The Minister shall appoint the member to the Appeal Board who is not a member of the Council.
Will I get paid?
Chair - $161/diem and Members - $109/diem.
What is the time commitment of the Appeal Board?
Hearings are held upon receipt of an appeal.
The members hold office for a term of three years.
