Council of the Institute of the Prince Edward Island Professional Planners
What is the function of the Council?
The Council of the Institute of the Prince Edward Island Professional Planners shall manage and control the affairs and business of the Prince Edward Island Institute of Professional Planners. The objects of the Institute are
- to protect the public and serve the public interest in relation to planning conducted by registered professional planners;
- to protect and maintain the integrity of the planning profession;
- to regulate the practice and professional conduct of registrants in accordance with the Registered Professional Planners Act, the Regulations and the bylaws;
- to promote and increase the knowledge, skill and proficiency of registrants;
- to promote and contribute to awareness about the values and methods of planning in Prince Edward Island; and
- to provide for the professional association and support of its members.
Primary role: Non-adjudicative
How many people are on the council?
Section 6 of the Registered Professional Planners Act provides that the council shall be comprised of at least five (5) persons.
What are the requirements of council members?
The Council shall consist of:
- at least three members of the Prince Edward Island Institute of Professional Planners and elected in accordance with the bylaws of the Institute, the majority of whom are a registered professional planners or a candidate as defined in the Registered Professional Planners Act; and
- two public representatives appointed by the Minister who are residents of Prince Edward Island but not members of the Prince Edward Island Institute of Professional Planners.
Formal Qualifications: Knowledge of the Registered Professional Planners Act.
Skills, Work & Experience Requirements: Dependent on position sought.
What are the nomination requirements?
Two public representatives appointed by the Minister, and at least three members from the Prince Edward Island Institute of Professional Planners elected by its membership in accordance with its bylaws.
Will I get paid?
There is no remuneration paid to members of the Council.
What is the time commitment of the council?
The Council meets at least four times per year. It is anticipated that the newly formed Council may meet six to eight times during the first year.
The term of office for a member is three years and a member shall not hold office for more than two consecutive terms.
