Lucy Maud Montgomery Foundation

The purpose of the Foundation is to use, administer, manage and maintain the buildings, held by the Foundation, and to preserve and perpetuate the memory of Lucy Maud Montgomery, her times and works.

What is the function of the organization?

The Foundation manages and maintains property in New London known as the Lucy Maud Montgomery Birthplace. Additionally, the Foundation may:

  • acquire, hold, manage and dispose of any real or personal property;
  • enter into agreements with any person which it may consider necessary or advisable in furtherance of its objects and execute such agreements, deeds and other instruments therefor;
  • promote, assist in and do all matters, things and duties that will commemorate the life, times and work of the late Lucy Maud Montgomery and otherwise as the board may consider necessary or expedient in the operation and maintenance of the buildings as a memorial to her.

How many people are on the organization?

The board of directors is made up of a chairperson and at least four other members who are ordinarily resident in the province.

What are the requirements of organization members?

Interested applicants should have knowledge of or experience working with Lucy Maud Montgomery or Anne of Green Gables museums, works or history.

What are the nomination requirements?

The members shall be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor-in-Council.

Will I get paid?

Board members serve as volunteers and receive no remuneration for their services, although they may be reimbursed for necessary travel and related costs.

What is the time commitment of the organization?

The board shall meet at least once a year at the birthplace of Lucy Maud Montgomery on such day as the board may fix and at such other times and places as the board considers necessary

Each of the members of the board shall be appointed for a term of five years, except that a member may be appointed to fill the remainder of a term when a vacancy occurs.
