Carbon Levy Rates

Bill 60 has passed in the PEI Legislature, and as a result, the PEI carbon levy rates will increase effective 12:01am on May 9, 2022.

Petroleum wholesalers and retailers should ensure that on-hand tax paid inventories are completed at the close of business on May 8, 2022 in preparation for a carbon levy self-declaration.  Additional information on the carbon levy self-declaration will be sent to wholesalers and retailers in the coming days.

This section provides information on the types of fuels and the respective carbon levy rates that will be applied under the Climate Leadership Act.

What fuels will have carbon pricing?

A carbon price (levy) will apply to 26 fuels. The list of fuels is shown on the Schedule of Levy Rates on Fossil Fuels.

For the current agreement between the Province and the Federal Government, there will be no carbon price (levy) on furnace oil used for heating or on propane.
