PEI Excellence in Sport Pin

The Excellence in Sport Pin is a provincial award presented by the Minister responsible for Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity.  It recognizes athletes, coaches, officials and sport leaders who have made a lasting impact on sport on Prince Edward Island.

What is the purpose of the pin?

The pin recognizes excellence in sport and honors individuals who show:

  • Strong performance
  • Leadership
  • Integrity
  • Meaningful contributions to the sport community

What is the recognition pathway?

The pin is awarded to Islanders who represents Prince Edward Island on the national or international level as an athlete, coach or accredited team member at or for:

  • Olympic Games
  • Paralympic Games
  • Pan American or Para Pan American Games
  • Commonwealth Games
  • World Championships
  • Professional Sport Leagues (ie. PWHL, NHL)

What are the eligibility principles?

Recipients may be recognized for:

  • Excellence in performance
  • Leadership in sport and the community
  • Integrity and sportsmanship
  • Mentorship and athlete development
  • Contributions to inclusion, innovation, and community sport

What is the program integrity?

Individuals can only receive the pin once.  One replacement pin may be issued if the original is lost or damaged.

How is the Excellence in Sport pin administered?

The provincial sport, recreation and physical activity division is responsible for keeping a record of all pin recipients and managing the distribution of the pins.  There is no public nomination process for the Excellence in Sport Pin.
