The Pediatrics Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is seeking a Locum Neonatologist. Placement opportunities can be as short as a 1 month or as long as 6 months, with possibility of extension to 12 months, with preference being given to long-term locums,  between September 2021 and September 2022.

Located in Prince Edward Island’s charming capital city, Charlottetown, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, a 243-bed provincial referral facility, is operated by Health PEI, a crown corporation responsible for the delivery of publicly funded health services in Prince Edward Island.

The QEH NICU is a 13 bed, level 2b+, community NICU. We are the provincial neonatology service for PEI. We currently provide intensive care for neonates 30 weeks’ gestation and above. All neonates < 37 weeks’ gestation or < 2500gm birth weight are cared for in our unit. We provide intensive care services including: parenteral nutrition, noninvasive and invasive ventilation, surfactant, central line access (PICC/UVC), and invasive and non-invasive monitoring. We work within a multidisciplinary team including NICU RNs and RRTs, pharmacy, lactation consultant, social work, PT/OT, and dietitian. High risk deliveries are attended by the Neonatal Team (NICU RN, RRT, and neonatologist or pediatrician on call). The call schedule is shared between neonatology and general pediatrics, with the neonatologist participating in the general pediatrics call schedule (approx. 1 in 5). The neonatologist provides 2nd call to the general pediatricians. Additional services include a NICU follow-up clinic and prenatal consultations.
