Locum - Pediatrician - Charlottetown

Health PEI is seeking a locum Pediatrician to join the Pediatrics Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, from September 2021 to April 2022, or part thereof, with possible extension until September 2022. The Pediatric outpatient clinic is located within the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The Pediatrics Department includes 6 pediatricians. There is a 12-bed inpatient pediatric unit and a 12-bed Level 2 NICU.

Pediatrician's at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital are responsible to: 

  • Provide general pediatric consultations and follow-up care for referrals from physicians and nurse practitioners from across PEI;
  • Take part in the Pediatrics on-call schedule, providing general pediatric consultations for the hospital and ER, as well as neonatal resuscitation and NICU coverage;
  • Participate in clinical teaching of medical students and residents in Family Practice and Pediatrics; and
  • Share care of pediatric oncology patients with our regional tertiary care center.

The successful candidate(s) will work in the Island’s capital city of Charlottetown, PEI. 

Health PEI, a crown corporation, is responsible for the delivery of publicly funded health services in Prince Edward Island. Health PEI’s head office is located at 16 Garfield Street, Charlottetown, PEI.

Remuneration:

  • Physicians have the option of choosing a contract-for-service, or fee-for-service payment modality. Information related to payment modalities, including hourly contract-for-service rate; fee-for-service tariff of fees; on-call payments; and more can be found in the Master Agreement.

Hours of Work:

  • Full-time hours and on-call coverage as required during the locum period

Incentives:

  • Return travel based on economy airfare. If traveling by car, mileage rates are determined by PEI Treasury Board Policy and cannot exceed economy airfare.
  • Application fees with the Medical Society of PEI and some application fees with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI will be covered.
  • Locum support stipend to offset the cost of accommodations and other living expenses: $200/day worked June - September and $150/day worked October - May up to a maximum of $7500 per fiscal year.  Physicians must complete the Locum Support Stipend Form to receive these funds.
  • Arrangements and payment for car rental and accommodations are the responsibility of the physician.
