Personal Services Facility Inspections

Personal services involve the piercing or penetrating of human skin. To ensure public safety, inspections occur at facilities that offer procedures such as tattooing and body piercing.

Personal-service facilities in PEI do not require a licence, but are monitored to ensure appropriate sanitary operations are followed. Facilities offering high-risk procedures that penetrate human skin such as tattooing or body piercing require regular inspection and approval from Environmental Health. Lower risk personal services, such as nail salons and foot baths, are inspected on a complaint basis only.

All facility inspections are completed under authority of the Public Health Act and the PEI Guidelines for Personal Service Facilities.

The PEI Hairdressers Association inspects hair cutting locations in the province for sanitary standards.
