Financial Assistance for Out-of-Province Medical Travel

If you are a PEI Resident (with a valid PEI Health Card) and have received prior approval from Health PEI for out-of-province medical services, you may be able to reduce your travel expenses under one of the following  programs:

1) Maritime Bus Program

Islanders requiring out-of-province health care in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick may qualify for a fare subsidy to travel with Maritime Bus.

For more information, see Apply for subsidized Maritime Bus tickets for out-of-province medical travel

2) Hope Air Program

If you need to travel out-of-province for a medical service you may qualify for subsidy from Hope Air, a national charity that provides travel assistance for patients in need. They offer free flights, bridge/ferry passes, gas cards, accommodations and meals.

Do I qualify for assistance?

When reviewing applications, Hope Air considers your financial needs, annual health-care-related expenses, your frequency of out-of-province travel for health services, and other factors.

For more information see Hope Air's Frequently Asked Questions.

How do I apply for the Hope Air Program?

To request a free flight, bridge/ferry pass, gas card, accommodations or meals, complete the Hope Air Travel Request Online Application Form or call Hope Air at 1-877-346-4673 (toll-free).
