Nutrition Services Program
If you are pregnant and have a nutritional deficiency, you may be eligible for coverage of approved nutritional supplement costs through the Nutrition Services Program.
Am I eligible?
You are eligible for the program if you have a PEI Health Card, and are a:
- high-risk pregnant woman receiving service from a community nutritionist; or
- low-income pregnant woman receiving, or in need of, financial assistance.
How do I apply for assistance?
The community nutritionist must request nutritional supplements from the Provincial Pharmacy on your behalf.
How much of the cost will be covered?
All costs of approved vitamin and mineral supplements that are provided through the Public Health and Family Nutrition Program are covered by the Nutrition Services Program.
What if my vitamins and supplements are not listed in the PEI Pharmacare Formulary?
If your vitamins and supplements are not included in the PEI Pharmacare Formulary, they will not be eligible for cost coverage. Special authorization requests will not be considered under this program. You will only be eligible for coverage of the approved vitamins and supplements through the Nutrition Services Program.
Where can I get my vitamins and supplements?
Your vitamins and supplements will be provided to you by your community nutritionist.
Will I get a refund for vitamins and supplements I already purchased?
Coverage is not retroactive, you will not be reimbursed for vitamins and supplements you have already purchased.
What if I move away from PEI?
Your eligibility for this program will end the day you leave PEI to take up residency elsewhere.
