“It was worth it, even for that one person”

Jillian Mosher, Public Health Nursing Manager for Queens Region

Public Health Nursing goes out of its way to accommodate everyone’s needs for vaccination.

We know vaccines are important, but for some people, the vaccination clinic itself is so intimidating or scary, it can be a serious barrier.

“New spaces are difficult for anybody,” said Dr. Nadine DeWolfe, Psychologist, and Pediatric Psychology Services Clinical Supervisor for Health PEI, “but particularly so for children with autism spectrum and with other sensory difficulties.”

With that in mind, the Autism Society of PEI made a generous donation of toys and tools to help make the experience easier. Public Health Nursing has created a Sensory Clinic for anyone who might benefit from a less intense environment.

“There are no other people around. It’s just the family that’s present. We’ve taken a lot of the noise away. We’ve dimmed the lights and created an environment that’s more soothing and quieter and, I guess, more friendly for those children.”
