March 18, 2020 - Premier King speaks with Murphy Hospitality Group CEO

Premier King spoke with Kevin Murphy, president and CEO of Murphy Hospitality Group, to better understand the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 on the hospitality and restaurant industry.

Premier King offered his thanks to Murphy Hospitality Group for its continued efforts to support its staff during an unprecedented and uncertain time.

Mr. Murphy highlighted the efforts his organization has put into place to support employees and put long term plans in place to sustain their operation going forward.

Both agreed that there is an immediate need to address Employment Insurance benefits for workers as well as put plans in place to ensure the provincial economy can sustain the current pandemic and recover as quickly as possible.

The health and safety of Islanders is the greatest priority. The Province of Prince Edward Island is working closely with local, provincial, territorial and federal partners to minimize its health, economic and social impacts in Prince Edward Island and across the country.

Islanders with questions about COVID-19 should call PEI’s toll-free information line at 1-800-958-6400. The information line is taking messages 24-hours a day, 7 days a week and Islanders who leave messages will receive a call back within 24 hours from the Chief Public Health Office.

Islanders experiencing symptoms (cough, fever, or shortness of breath) within 14 days after international travel should call 8-1-1 to be screened and, if necessary, directed for testing.

Those requiring immediate medical attention should call 9-1-1.
