Rabies Vaccine Program

If you require post-exposure vaccination against rabies, the cost of the vaccine will be covered through the Rabies Vaccine Program.   

Am I eligible?

You are eligible for the program if you have:

• are a PEI resident as defined by the Drug Cost Assistance Act;
• have a valid PEI Health Card; and
• been exposed to rabies from an animal bite or have had exposure to a bat.

How do I apply?

There is no application process after vaccination has been determined appropriate by a health care provider. You can receive the rabies vaccine at any hospital in Prince Edward Island or from Health PEI Public Health Nursing.  

How much of the medication cost will be covered?

All costs of the rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin are covered by the program.
