A path to a stronger, more sustainable and resilient provinceCover of PEI Provincial Energy Strategy 2016/17

The PEI Energy Strategy is based on recommendations from Dunsky Energy Consulting with considerable input from individuals, businesses and organizations who took part in the consultation process.

Key Areas for Action

The Provincial Energy Strategy addresses four key areas where we need to take action to determine our energy future:

  1. Energy Efficiency and Conservation
  2. Power Generation and Management
  3. Biomass and Heating
  4. Transportation

Guiding principles for energy strategy

  • Lower greenhouse gas emissions
  • Actions and decisions should be cost-effective
  • Local economic opportunities

The energy strategy will result in energy savings for Islanders and greater self-sufficiency by reducing our reliance on imported fossil fuels. It will also translate into good jobs and economic opportunity with an increase in retrofitting projects and more energy produced locally.

Implementing the Plan

The PEI Energy Corporation and the efficiency PEI are developing an implementation plan. It will be aligned with the PEI Climate Change Mitigation Recommendations Report.
