Gas Tax - Notional Allocation Fund

The Notional Allocation component of the Gas Tax program is for incorporated municipalities on PEI which do not provide sewer or water utility services to their residents. The Province will allocate 3.33 percent of the total Gas Tax allotment to the Notional allocation component. Available funding amounts to $2,847,150 over the next five years (2019-2024). The funds can only be accessed through an application process and each municipality whose project is approved must provide an audited Annual Expenditure Report at the end of each fiscal year. 

The NA funds are divided up on a per capita basis. The following table shows the amount of funds available to each of the 38 municipalities:

Eligible categories under the Gas Tax program include Drinking Water, Wastewater, Capacity Building, Local Roads and Bridges, Highways, Cultural Infrastructure, Tourism Infrastructure, Solid Waste, Community Energy Systems, Recreational Infrastructure, Short-sea Shipping, Sport Infrastructure, Public Transit, Disaster Mitigation, Brownfield Redevelopment, Broadband Connectivity, Regional and Local Airports, and Short-line Rail.
