Heating Rebates for Biomass, Firewood, Wood Pellets
The provincial government offers rebates to help Islanders save money on heating.
You may be able to get rebates for:
- Wood pellets
- Firewood
- Biomass heating systems
Wood Pellets and Firewood
You can get a 10% rebate on wood pellets and firewood.
There is no income limit.
Ask a store or provider if they offer the rebate.
Sometimes, you may need to apply yourself.
If you need to apply:
- Fill out a Customer Rebate Application Form
- Fill out a PEI Payee Registration Form or complete it online (if your payment is more than $50 or once a year)
Information for Retailers
If you sell wood pellets or firewood, you can offer 10% rebates to your customers.
To get started:
- Register for the program
- Complete the payee form
- PEI Payee Registration Form or complete it online
To get reimbursed:
- Submit the Eligible Supplier Reimbursement Form (if your payment is more than $50 or once a year)
Biomass Heating Rebates
Rebates are available for:
- Biomass stoves
- Biomass boilers
- Biomass furnaces
Lower Income Households Get a Higher Rebate
If your household income is $35,000 or less, you get a higher rebate.
Biomass Stove
- Regular rebate: up to $1,000
- Low-income rebate: up to $1,800
Biomass Boiler or Furnace
- Regular rebate: up to $2,000
- Low-income rebate: up to $3,500
To get a low-income rebate:
- The home must be the main place you live in.
- Seasonal homes (like cottages) do not qualify.
Who Can Apply?
You can apply if:
- You own your home.
- It is your main residence.
- If it’s a new home, you have lived there for six months.
- You install EPA-approved equipment or meet CSA-B415.1-10 standards.
- The upgrade is added to a space that already has heat.
- You apply within one year of installing the equipment.
Homes under construction do not qualify.
Some situations use a different rebate:
- If the equipment is for a business, tourism dwelling, or rented out for less than one year, apply for a Business Energy Rebate instead.

You can search for someone who offers biomass equipment rebates by:
- Name
- Type of service
- Program
What You Need When You Apply
- The application form
- Your receipts
- Your property tax number (also called a PID).
- Find this number on the address locator page.
- Proof of income
- This can be your GST tax credit
