Voting in a School Board Election
Prince Edward Island will hold elections for English and French language school board trustees in September/October, 2022. After that date, trustee elections for Public Schools Branch (PSB) and Commission Scolaire de Langue Française (CSLF) will be held on the third Friday of October every three years. Voting in the upcoming school board election is by mail-in ballot only.
Island residents who are eligible to vote may:
- Request a mail-in ballot from September 6th until October 2nd; and
- Submit their mail-in vote to Elections PEI from September 28th until noon October 21st.
Am I eligible to vote in a school board election?
You are eligible to vote for a PEI school board trustee if you are:
- a Canadian citizen;
- 18 years of age or older on the date of the election; and
- Resident in the province for the six months (Thu April 21, 2022) before the date of the election.
- An additional eligibility requirement for CSLF elections only: You must be a parent (or would be a parent if you had a child) who is eligible under the Education Act as “a resident of the province who, under section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, has the right to have his or her child receive French first language instruction in the province.”
How do I get a mail-in ballot?
Elections PEI is administering the school board election.You may request a mail-in ballot from Elections PEI one of the following ways:

How do I know who is running in my electoral zone?
Elections PEI will send your voter package to the address you provide when you request your mail-in ballot.It will contain your mail-in ballot and the name(s) of candidate(s) running in the electoral zone. Your electoral zone is based on where you live, not where your child(ren) attend school.
