Pay Transparency

Published date: June 30, 2026

Employers are not allowed to seek pay history information from job applicants and must include the expected pay or a pay range in any publicly advertised job postings. Employers (or someone acting for them) cannot threaten, fire, or treat an employee unfairly for talking about pay or taking action to address it. This includes asking questions about their own pay or the employer’s pay policies, sharing their pay with another employee, giving information to an Inspector or government staff, or asking the employer to follow these rules.

This information is meant to serve as a guide only. You are advised to consult the Employment Standards Act to view the legislation. Where difference exists between this information and the legislation, the Act will be considered correct.
