Sunday Employment
If an employee began working with a retailer before March 17, 2007, they can refuse to work on any or all Sundays; if an employee began working with a retailer between March 17, 2007 and December 15, 2010, they can refuse to work on any or all Sundays between Christmas Day and the Friday before Victoria Day; if an employee began working with a retailer after December 15, 2010, they do not have the right to refuse to work on Sunday. The employee must tell the employer, either verbally or in writing, that they are saying no at least 7 days before the Sunday it applies to.
Employees who are allowed to turn down work on Sundays and choose to do so cannot be dismissed, suspended, laid off, penalized, disciplined or treated unfairly by their employer.
