Building and strengthening our relationship with China
Exploring opportunities to promote Prince Edward Island and supporting Island businesses overseas will be top of mind as Premier Wade MacLauchlan and the PEI delegation join federal ministers and Atlantic premiers on the Atlantic Growth Strategy mission to China.
China is an important world market that offers many opportunities for growth and prosperity. The economic mission overseas will highlight the many reasons why choosing PEI is an advantageous decision. Our diverse and vibrant economy is comprised of traditional and innovative sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, clean energy and biosciences.
“Prince Edward Island and China have a long standing relationship. We are going to China to reaffirm our existing relationships but also to forge new ones as we both look for mutual prosperity and growth opportunities,” said Premier MacLauchlan. “Prince Edward Island is known worldwide for many reasons, from our unrivaled coastal red shores to the iconic PEI lobster, and as we move forward, we want to cement our name in China as the go-to destination for trade of our goods and services, tourism and for our education systems. We know that if Islanders and the Chinese work together, we can get ahead together.”
“With its consistently growing market, focus on building respectful relationships, and increasing spending power, China is a wise choice for building agri-food relationships, and expanding our export business,” said Wayne MacLean, General Manager of W.A. Grain & Pulse Solutions
Premier MacLauchlan and the PEI delegation look to create and strengthen bridges for economic opportunities between the province and the vast Chinese markets. Significant headway towards the goal of quadrupling sales with China by 2025 is well underway with over $64 million already generated in trade, education and tourism.
Key events of the mission include meeting with officials from PEI’s sister province of Hainan, the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo, the China International Import Expo and the Canada China Business Council Annual General Meeting.
The PEI delegation includes Aspin Kemp and Associates, Atlantic Aqua, BJ Marketing and Trading, Compass Tours, Cows Inc., Everich Import Export Inc., Holland College, HueGo Electric, North Lake Fisheries, Raspberry Point, Royal Star Foods, Study Abroad Canada, Sown Solutions, Universal Sunshine Enterprise, the University of Prince Edward Island, and W.A. Grain and Pulse Solutions.
The province of Prince Edward Island, in collaboration with federal ministers and fellow Atlantic premiers, will look to strengthen economic cooperation, trade, education and tourism with China and Atlantic Canada. The PEI delegation will focus on expanding our global presence and affirming our province as a natural partner.
