Dr. Adriana Verdejo to practice family medicine full-time in Eastern Kings this fall

Dr. Adriana Verdejo will begin a full-time family medicine practice at the Eastern Kings Health Centre in Souris in September.

“Having a third full-time family physician in Souris will provide the community with better access to primary health care, and it will strengthen the Kings County family physician team,” said Health and Wellness Minister Robert Henderson. “I have heard many positive comments about Dr. Verdejo from Souris residents and staff, and we are very happy that she has accepted our offer to join us.”

Dr. Adriana Verdejo  worked as a locum physician in the Northwest Territories, New Brunswick, Quebec, and recently in Souris, Prince Edward Island. After completing a locum in Souris last fall, she made the decision to relocate to the province on a permanent basis.
“The people of Souris stole my heart,” said Dr. Verdejo. “I have been locuming for a number of years and feel I would now like to take on a practice on a full time basis. I am very pleased to accept a permanent position to practice family medicine in Souris."

She is originally from Santiago, Chile. After completing her medical training in Chile she studied public health in France.  In 2005 she moved to Canada to attend McGill University in Montreal where she studied anatomical pathology, and then completed her family medicine residency.

The addition of Dr. Verdejo will mean that 11 of the 12 positions in the Kings County physician complement will be filled.

“I want to say a big thank you to our two permanent physicians in Souris, Dr. Paul Berrow  and Dr. Tom Bronaugh and to other Kings County physicians and locums who have provided support while we recruited to this permanent position,”  said Minister Henderson.

Dr. Verdejo plans to relocate to Prince Edward Island in September.
