Four organizations awarded funding to assist in the elimination of violence against women

Today, the Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, Darlene Compton announced in the House, the four organizations that will receive funding through the Violence Against Women Prevention Grants this year, for projects that will enhance awareness, education and action towards preventing violence against women in Prince Edward Island.

The following organizations will receive funding:

  • The Coalition for Women in Government will receive $14,900 for the project "Developing Policy to Prevent Violence Against Women in Leadership". The objective of this project is to increase awareness and understanding of trauma informed policies and best practices to prevent and address violence against women. 
  • Family Violence Prevention Services will receive $7,700 to increase community awareness and provide more public education and training around the issues of violence against women and family violence in its many forms. 
  • Justice Options for Women Incorporated will receive $14,500 for the project "Strengthening Survivor Networks in PEI".  This project’s goal is to strengthen and support a grassroots network of Survivors of Gender Based and Sexualized Violence in PEI. 
  • PEI Rape and Sexual Assault Centre will receive $12,900 to revitalize the annual Take Back the Night event in PEI. 

The Interministerial Women’s Secretariat provides funding to community organizations that support projects to increase awareness and prevention of violence towards women, and have awarded $150,000 to community organizations since the grants began in 2017.
