Grants available for seniors projects

Organizations are invited to submit applications to fund projects aimed at improving the lives of Island seniors.

Through the Prince Edward Island Seniors’ Secretariat the province offers grants up to $5,000 per project to organizations or groups interested in enriching the lives of seniors.  Eligible groups include non-profit organizations, community-based coalitions, networks, municipal governments, band/tribal councils, and other Aboriginal organizations across Prince Edward Island.

“These grants help to foster vibrant Island communities inclusive of seniors,” said Family and Human Services Minister Tina Mundy. “I invite applicants to bring their ideas and creativity forward and to apply for funding that can make a real difference both in the lives of seniors and the community.”

Projects should promote positive images of aging, support age-in-place initiatives, reduce the social isolation of seniors and promote the financial security and safety of seniors.

"Through this grant the Milton Hall was able to host six Meals & Spiels events where seniors can share a meal, swap a recipe, and learn something new,” said Shari MacDonald, Milton Community Hall. “Neighbors enjoyed cooking and eating while they learned from guest speakers about topics to improve their lives such as financial planning, medication safety or about the career adventures of other retirees. Meals and Spiels' popularity is blossoming with future sessions in the works."

Other examples of past projects include information sessions, theatre and musical outreach, intergenerational events, and fitness activities.
