Mayor appointed for Wellington
Alcide Bernard has been appointed mayor for the Rural Municipality of Wellington.
No candidates were nominated for the position of mayor for Wellington for the November municipal elections. Communities, Land and Environment Minister Richard Brown has authority under the Municipal Government Act to fill vacancies by appointing individuals from the residents of the municipality eligible to hold municipal office. Mr. Bernard was the former mayor and did not seek re-election.
“I want to express my sincere appreciation to Alcide Bernard for his past service as mayor of the Rural Municipality of Wellington and thank him for accepting this appointment,” said Minister Brown. “He played a key role in the implementation of the Municipal Government Act which is helping to modernize our municipalities and helping them deal with the complex challenges facing both urban and rural areas.”
Mr. Bernard’s appointment is effective December 7, 2018 and will run until December 6, 2022.
