New action plan to support seniors

June 29, 2026

The province is launching a new five-year Seniors Action Plan to help support the province's older adults through targeted, coordinated and measurable actions.

The Seniors Action Plan 2026-2031 focuses on three overarching pillars: promoting positive perceptions of aging; enhancing well-being and healthy aging; and strengthening services and collaboration across sectors. These pillars are supported by actions to help strengthen our province as a place where older adults are valued, supported, and empowered to age well and thrive in their communities.

"Seniors are at the heart of every recommendation in this action plan.Thank you to everyone who played a part in putting it together. This plan reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that seniors can age with dignity, security, and the right supports, while remaining close to home and connected to their communities."

- Minister of Social Development and Seniors Barb Ramsay

“Serving the senior population is not just a responsibility; it’s a reflection of our values as a community.Older adults have built the foundations we rely on today. They deserve respect, support, and opportunities to age with dignity, connection and purpose. By releasing this action plan, and continuing to invest in older adults, we are strengthening not only their well-being, but the health and resilience of our entire community.”

- Seniors’ Secretariat chair Peter Holman

This action plan was created through extensive engagement with seniors, Indigenous

elders, community organizations, and government partners and it is a key commitment in the department’s ministerial mandate letter
