New Fertility Support Program launches in January

Prince Edward Island’s new Fertility Support Program will launch in January.

The Fertility Support Program will provide funding to Islanders who are accessing in-vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI) and associated medications at out-of-province clinics.

“We have received great interest in the new Fertility Support Program so far and I look forward the support that will be offered to Islanders in the New Year,” said Health and Wellness Minister James Aylward. “Cost should not be a barrier for those looking to start or expand their family; this program will provide meaningful help to Island families and hopeful parents.”

The program will provide financial support based on annual family income for eligible expenses associated with IUI and/or IVF:

  • Those with an annual family income under $50,000 will receive up to $10,000/year in funding.
  • Those with an annual family income over $50,000 but under $100,000 will receive up to $7,500/year in funding.
  • Those with an annual family income of over $100,000 will receive up to $5,000/year in funding.

Individuals must be a permanent resident of the province and have a valid Prince Edward Island Health Card to be eligible for the program. An individual can access maximum annual funding for up to three years for one successful pregnancy or up to three attempts.

The program application form will be available online starting January 1, 2021, and applications can be retroactive in nature for expenses beginning January 1, 2021.

Once completed, the Fertility Support Program application form can be mailed to:
