Statement from Finance Minister Allen Roach

The Honourable Allen F. Roach announced today that he is stepping down from his position as Prince Edward Island’s minister of Finance effective immediately. He will continue to serve as a proud member of the Legislative Assembly for District 3, Montague-Kilmuir.

“As I have decided not to run in the next provincial election, I feel now is the right time to take a step back from the cabinet table and dedicate the remainder of my second term to focusing on the residents of Montague-Kilmuir. This is a personal decision reached after much thought and consideration,” he said.

“I have enjoyed every minute of my more than six years as a cabinet minister in this great province. I was fortunate enough to work across three departments and under two administrations. I have been blessed with incredible colleagues around the caucus and cabinet table, and most certainly within the departments which I was appointed to.

“Thank you to my family – my wife, children and grandchildren for their unwavering support throughout my time as minister.”

Allen Roach was first elected in October 2011 and was sworn in as minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning two weeks later. While in this role, he served as co-chair of the Forum of Labour Market Ministers (FLMM) and co-chair of the FLMM/Council of Education Canada Joint Symposium of Skills in 2014. He served in this role for three-and-a-half years while also becoming minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development from February to May 2015.

He was sworn in as minister of Finance in May 2015. In this role he was also responsible for the Public Service Commission, Information Technology Shared Services, the PEI Liquor Control Commission, and was the chair of the PEI Lotteries Corporation.

He has been a member of Treasury Board since 2011 and held the position of chair since spring 2015.
