Statement by the Honourable Frank Lewis at the completion of his term as Lieutenant Governor
As Their Honours' Lieutenant Governor H. Frank Lewis and Mrs. Dorothy Lewis’s time at Government House nears completion, they express their heartfelt thanks to the people of Prince Edward Island.
"Dorothy and I have been overwhelmed by the good feelings and positive messages we have received from our fellow Islanders, not only as we prepare to depart from our roles, but throughout my term as lieutenant governor," His Honour said. "It is difficult to express how kindly we have been received by the people of PEI, from one end to the other.
"We have tried our very best to welcome as many people as possible to Government House and accept invitations for events all across PEI," he said. "In both my constitutional responsibilities and ceremonial duties, we have been energized by the generosity of spirit from our friends and neighbours."
Her Honour echoed those feelings.
"Every day has given us lasting memories that we and our family will cherish and relive through memories for the rest of our lives. Frank and I are so thankful for the honour and privilege to work on behalf of Prince Edward Island's betterment and spread goodwill."
On His Honour's last full day as Her Majesty's representative in Prince Edward Island, he and Her Honour will attend the opening of the Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce Biz-to-Biz Expo at the Eastlink Centre, followed by a luncheon in the Top of the Park.
On the occasion of the swearing-in to office of Ms. Antoinette Perry, Their Honours will attend the ceremony in Tignish where His Honour will inspect the guard and receive a ceremonial gun salute.
Since being sworn in on August 15, 2011, His Honour has hosted or attended many ceremonies and events in his official capacity. These include Speeches from the Throne, swearing-in of three elected governments, hosting of royal visits from HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in 2014 and HRH Prince Edward in 2015.
Their Honours hosted the annual conference of the Governor General, Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners in 2014 and participated in ceremonies awarding more than 600 Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals between 2012 and 2014.
Between New Year's Levees, summer garden parties, and diplomatic and other events hosted for more than 25 organizations under honorary patronage, Their Honours have welcomed thousands of visitors to Government House. Special occasions include Order of PEI Ceremonies, exemplary of service medals and a variety of volunteer recognition awards.
In 2016, Their Honours hosted luncheons for more than 90 Islanders born in 1926 to celebrate Her Majesty's 90th birthday. In 2017, additional lunch events were held for 46 Island couples who, like Their Honours, were married in 1957.
