Status of Women council welcomes members through Engage PEI

Three new additions to the Advisory Council on the Status of Women will bring strong voices and fresh perspective to gender and equality issues on Prince Edward Island.

Cathy Rose of Fortune, Susan Sun of Charlottetown, and Chris MacPhail of Canoe Cove were recently appointed  to the council through Engage PEI, which helps Islanders volunteer on more than 70 provincial government agencies, boards and commissions. To apply for a vacancy that fits your interests, visit https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/service/apply-engage-pei.

“The Advisory Council on the Status of Women is making a real difference in the lives of Island women and girls in our province,” said Hon. Paula Biggar, minister responsible for the Status of Women. “These new appointments, together with the other council members, provide a collective voice for Island women and girls to move gender and equality issues forward. I look forward to continuing to work with the council on these important measures.”

As well, Minister Biggar would like to thank outgoing chair of the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Mari Basiletti, for her many contributions to the council. Yvonne Deagle of Miminegash, previous vice chair, was appointed chair of the council. Deborah Langston of Blooming Point was appointed vice chair.

“I am very grateful to the government of PEI and my colleagues on the advisory council for putting their faith in me to serve as chairperson,” Deagle said. “The council does such important work advising government and educating the public on status of women issues. I have been proud to be part of it for three years, and look forward to providing leadership to the council to my best ability. Our new members will bring new and diverse experiences and understanding to our work.”

Up to 20 vacant positions become available on Engage PEI boards each month. Some vacancies require specific skill sets, so Islanders should regularly check for openings that suit their experience or interests. Engage PEI is currently searching for a member to represent the Summerside and Miscouche area on the Acadian and Francophone Advisory Committee.

To ensure you are considered when a vacancy becomes available, you are encouraged to submit an application in advance at www.princeedwardisland.ca/engagepei
