Transportation partners with Women’s Institute Roadside Cleanup

Islanders taking action to help protect our environment through the Women’s Institute’s Roadside Cleanup on Saturday, May 12 will have more locations to access the designated cleanup bags this year.
The Department of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy will provide the free, specially marked yellow bags through all Access PEI locations in the province beginning today (May 1). The bags are also available at Island Waste Management Corporation (IWMC) locations. For large quantities, please use IWMC sites.
“The Women’s Institute Roadside Cleanup is an important provincial initiative that benefits our communities and our environment and is a prime example of when Islanders work together we can make great things happen," said Minister Biggar of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy. “My department is pleased to help support the Women’s Institute, a hard-working organization that has a positive and lasting impact on our mighty island.”
The Women’s Institute annual Roadside Cleanup has been taking place for 45 years. After the roadside clean up, Transportation staff will pick up the specifically marked bags for disposal starting May 14.
“The Women’s Institute is pleased to have the province’s support in our annual roadside cleanup,” said Doreen Cole, provincial WI board member and chair of the annual Roadside Cleanup. “I would encourage all Islanders to take part in this year’s cleanup and invite volunteers to enter the Women’s Institute contest for the opportunity to win cash prizes.”
