Tronos will diversify its operations to include manufacturing parts and components in Charlottetown

Creating jobs for Islanders -

A local company is diversifying its operations to include the manufacturing of aerospace parts and components. Thanks in part to support from the governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island, this new business line at Tronos is expected to create skilled jobs, increase exports, and boost the capacity of PEI’s Aerospace industry.

Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA); and the Honourable Heath MacDonald, PEI Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, today joined officials from Tronos to announce federal and provincial support for the company in this new venture.

Through its Business Development Program, ACOA will provide a repayable contribution of $472,250 to Tronos as the company establishes its facility at the Charlottetown Airport Industrial Park. The Government of Prince Edward Island is supporting the company’s expansion with non-repayable rental, IT and labour supports worth $151,000.

Known as ‘Innovators in Aviation’, Tronosjet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tronos Ltd. based in London, England. The company established operations in Prince Edward Island in 2003 to perform deep maintenance checks and overhaul on a fleet of BAe 146 aircraft. Soon after launching in PEI, the company explored a new project to convert BAe146 aircraft into airtankers for use in fighting forest fires. The project proved successful. The company is once again diversifying its business options with its new Charlottetown facility to manufacture aerospace parts and components.
